The Garden House and Woodside Cottage, Holiday Cottages in the Cairngorm national park.

Activities

The Strathdon and Glenbuchat area offers quiet roads, clean air and countless opportunities to enjoy the countryside. On foot or mountain bike you can explore forest trails from the doorstep and you are sure to see deer and buzzards at least. Other wildlife that may be spotted includes scottish crossbills, capercaillie and red squirrels, or even a wildcat.

There is easy access to the moorland and mountains for hill walkers to explore the Eastern Cairngorms, following old drovers trails and smugglers routes. Fishing is available by day ticket on the river Don and at a nearby trout loch.

The county of Aberdeenshire has a wealth of visitor attractions within reach for a day out. The award winning Castle Trail explores many fine buildings and National Trust properties with gardens. Archeolink is a centre interpreting the ancient history of the area.

The Lecht Ski Centre is only 12 miles away and there are summer activities here as well. Aviemore and Glenshee ski areas are also within reach.

The Whisky Trail on Speyside is a popular feature with distillery tours and free tasting of the product.

The village of Alford (20 miles east) has all amenities such as banks, supermarket, chemist and other shops. Also the Grampian Transport Museum, Farming and Heritage Museum, narrow gauge railway, country park, swimming pool and even a skateboard and BMX park!

Highland games are held throughout the area in the summer. Strathdon is where the Lonach Gathering and Games is held each August. It is one of the oldest traditional events in Scotland.

There may not be enough time in one visit to sample all the activities in and around Strathdon and Glenbuchat.
