A lively community of artists live in the area with groups and individuals presenting a widely varying range of styles and media.
The Lost Gallery is owned and run by Peter and Jean Goodfellow. It shows contemporary Scottish painting and sculpture of an adventurous nature. Always on show is Goodfellow's own work, which varies from lyrical colourist, Scottish watercolour landscapes to abstract symbolist spiritual oils. Helen Denerley's inspirational works have brought her to the forefront of the Scottish sculptural scene. Her sculptures possess a vitality and animation which defy the very nature of the materials used. Incorporating both new and scrap metal, she creates powerful images which both inspire and uplift. Music has always played an important role in the cultural life of this rural community. The most visual aspect of this has been represented by two pipe bands:

Noted for her work with now famous musicians, Elspeth holds classes in piano that take the keen musician through all grades of the musical syllabus. The pupil has the added bonus of classes held in the atmospheric rooms of the House of Newe.
The group meets in the school at Strathdon on Tuesdays at 7.00pm. New members from any area are always welcome.

Located a mile north of Alford, Syllavethy Gallery offers an 'encounter' with fine art. Mike and Susan Gassaway introduce visitors to works by internationally known artists from Britain, China and America. Portrait specialists. Please telephone before making a special trip to ensure they are open.
Many galleries exist around the Donside area as well as in Donside itself. For those wanting to explore the wide range of artistic talent we would suggest the Braemar Gallery, Braemar; McEwan Gallery, Ballater on Deeside. The Scottish Sculpture Workshop is at nearby Lumsden and, slightly further afield, Tolquhon Gallery, Tarves.
