| WEDDING VENUE - Monarch of the Glen
Castle, Kinlochlaggan, Inverness-shire You will probably recognise these turreted spires as those of `Glenbogle ` from the highly acclaimed BBC television series `Monarch of the Glen'. The house is in fact Ardverikie, a fine example of Victorian baronial architecture set on the shore of Loch Laggan in the very heart of the highlands of Scotland. Ardverikie was built in 1878 by local craftsmen and has been owned by the same family since then. It has had a rich history, almost chosen by Queen Victoria instead of Balmoral and ironically used briefly in the film `Mrs Brown' for some scenes. John Millais the famous English painter spent many months here on the estate sketching and drawing. Landseer's influence also is evident within the house as well as with the adoption of his most famous stag painting for the title of the tv series. Some of his works were lost in one of two fires which gutted the building early in its life. The house stands proudly amidst scots pines, halfway up the 7 mile lochside, surrounded by forests and moorland with stunning views across the water to the snow capped munro Creag Meagaidh. The gardens extend right down to the shore of the loch where there is a unique Victorian boathouse nestling on the silver sand. Hunting, shooting and fishing are practised on the 40,000 acre estate all of which is totally private.
